An Inside Job
While many think the heart of the home is the kitchen, we believe it’s the mechanical room. Behind its door is everything that allows a home to run optimally — HVAC, plumbing, electric and home integration, as well as complex new technologies, such as electronic air cleaning and energy recovery units. Sustaining and maintaining the complexity of the custom homes we build, requires this room be created with the same thoughtful design, craftsmanship and attention to detail we give the rest of a home.
Meticulously planned and scrupulously organized, our mechanical rooms are laid out to make each system easy to access, service and if necessary, replace. Components are clearly labeled, and wiring that can cause chaos, is controlled. We even install removable baseboards to make future upgrades simple and efficient. Floors are pitched with a central drain, and grid ceilings replace traditional drop ceilings, allowing unwanted water to escape safely, without causing damage.
As Ken has always joked, he builds homes with two dining rooms—the formal one and the mechanical room, referring to the fact that these rooms are so pristine, one could eat dinner on the floor. We always take it as a compliment to hear that the way we create our mechanical rooms is now an industry standard. It’s one more example of the unparalleled attention we pay to every room of the homes we create, from top to bottom.
