There’s no place like KV&S.
Since the start of Ken’s career, he’s always offered his building expertise, time and resources to philanthropic causes. Take, for instance, the recent exciting project he took on for the Corwin Russell, Broccoli Hall School, a school known for embracing diverse learning styles. When our Marketing Director, Tara Pavia’s daughter Emma, won the role of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, Ken was excited to take on the sets. For two weeks, the talented team at Kenneth Vona Millwork became Oz Headquarters, designing and building cornstalks, trees. fencing, and the great doors that lead to the Wizard, himself. And when it came to building Dorothy’s house back in Kansas, they did a Tony award-worthy job, even rigging some shingles to fall off the prop house after it dropped on the Wicked Witch of the West in Munchkinland!
If you ask Ken about his long history of philanthropy, he points to the quote “To whom much is given, much is expected.” (Luke 12:48) “That quote,” he says, “describes how I live my life.” Ken says he doesn’t need a pat on the back, or accolades, for giving back, he just believes it’s the right thing to do.
Ken’s always been generous in donating both time and money to numerous organizations and individuals. For example, not long ago, he and his gifted team gave their time to create a wheelchair-accessible bathroom for a local resident living with a spinal injury. This bathroom delivered more than just function; it helped restore this resident’s independence and dignity.
It’s not surprising that Ken’s philanthropy goes beyond his hands-on contributions. He’s been deeply involved with the Community Foundation for MetroWest since 2007, where, for 17 years, he served as Board Chair and is currently serving as a Trustee, playing a key role in this important organization’s advancing of initiatives that strengthen more than 30 local communities. He also attends many fundraising events throughout the year, including Modern Luxury’s to Live & Dine event, which raises money for non-profit, Project Bread, who addresses food insecurity throughout Massachusetts–an issue Ken’s been committed to for decades. From the Wounded Warriors Project to multiple dog rescue organizations, Ken can always be counted on to support the causes he believes in. And no matter how busy his schedule may be, he’ll always make time to give back to his community, improve an individual’s life, or help a furry friend. Philanthropy has always been part of the way Ken lives, because he believes giving back is one of the most important things he can do.
