THE BIG AND THE SMALL OF IT

You may know us for building award-winning custom homes and meticulously working on historic renovations, but did you know we do small jobs, too? Whether you’re interested in a kitchen renovation, or just some new cabinets, a mudroom or a vaulted ceiling to give the family room some pizazz, a pool house, an expanded deck, or a powder room, our team will bring the same exacting craftsmanship and over-the top work ethic to your project, that we use when we’re building a custom house from the ground up. So, whether you want to up your game in the category of curbside appeal or build a stable or elaborate addition, we’re all systems go and ready to hit the ground running because no matter what size your project is — small, medium, or large — we can promise to give you some big results.

Curbside appeal gets more appealing: The exterior makeover.

This home looked like a basic Colonial until we added three, perfectly symmetrical A-frame dormers, which elevated the aesthetic beauty of the exterior while adding more space to the top floor of the interior. Aligned to the roof so they will never leak, these functional and impressive dormers, along with a striking new exterior paint color, gave this home a major facelift. The client (and the neighbors) were all happy with the result!

Bringing the outside inside: The four-season porch.

Installing three lift and slide doors to this seasonal porch made it not only a seamless part of the home, but also a bright and airy living space that acts as an inviting connector to the pool area. We installed removable screens and storm windows, allowing light to stream into the first floor of this home. In addition we added rich Mahogony decking floors, and radiant heat. With new fans, downlighting and skylight, this porch now offers the client a four-season porch that can be enjoyed 365 days a year.

A suite walk: Upgrading the stair railing.

We make it a point to ensure that even when we make a change in a home, it looks and feels organic and natural. An addition, enhancement, or full-on renovation should always be seamless, keeping in mind the home’s integrity. The stair railing that leads to the guest suite in this home was not up to code, so while we upgraded it, we made an aesthetic improvement at the same time. We used the artisans in our Mill to carve out the stair spindles so that they would be unique and custom to this home, giving it a look all its own.

Beaming with beauty: How a ceiling became a focal point.

Even a small change can enhance a home’s design DNA. For instance, by removing this basic ceiling fan and adding an under frame of decorative timber, which we hand hewed into a rustic frame truss, the area above the stairs was transformed from bland to bold and beautiful. We’ve found that paying attention to the overlooked spaces in a home can easily and effortlessly elevate its aesthetic.

Out with the old and in with the new: The heart of the home gets a modern update.

As Ken says, “The kitchen is the center of everything that happens in a home.” So, when these clients requested a renovation of their 1980’s kitchen, we knew it was a project that would enhance the whole house. With the expertise of our Millwork Designer, we combined functionality with clean lines, and a newly configured layout, which included removing a wall to open up the space. We upgraded counters and appliances and added architectural grade custom cabinets from our mill, Kenneth Vona Millwork. The result: An inviting, fresh, contemporary room with modern sophistication that makes it a space that’s perfect for family, ideal for cooking and made for entertaining.
